Vassilis Kollias

Role in CoReflect: Principal Investigator

Vassilis Kolias has a Ph.D. from Boston University, USA, in Solid State Physics. He has worked for a year in the Center for Science and Mathematics Teaching (head: Professor R. Thornton) in Tufts University and then participated in various research programs in the Laboratory of Pure and Applied Cognitive Science (head: Professor Stella Vosniadou) in the University of Athens. He teaches and conducts research at the University of Thessaly, where he is employed as an adjunct lecturer in the Primary Education Department.

His research interests include the influence of CSCL environments on achieving conceptual change in science, the obstacles that teachers face as they try to lead CSCL innovations in their classrooms and the analysis of factors that influence the stabilization of a learning community culture in a classroom. In the CoReflect project he is interested in the factors that will stabilize or destibilize a developing community of learners.

Anastastios Matos

Anastasios Matos is a secondary school teacher of classical / modern Greek literature and history in the “Music School of Larissa”. He also trains secondary school teachers who teach the same lessons as he does, in integrating ICT in the curriculum. In 2006 he received his Master’s degree in “ICT Development in Secondary Education”. He participated in several Greek and European Union pedagogical projects such as the a) “Interchange of teachers”(Lycee Montesqieau, Bordeaux – France 1994-1995), b) “Spring day in Europe”, in which he had the role of the pedagogical mentor for Greece, (2002 – 2003), c)“e-Omogeneia” - a Computer Technology Institute (CTI) project (2002– 2004), in which he was a mentor in two Greek schools in Germany and Ukraine and d)“Palette”, a European project that aimed at facilitating and augmenting individual and organisational learning in Communities of Practice (CoPs) (2006-2007).

His research interests focus on Teachers Communities of Practice and Teachers professional development with ICT. The Greek LWG and all the other LWGs of the CoReflect project constitute a learning community. Anastasios is interested in studying the way teachers change and learn in such an informal learning environment, and what – if any – hindrances will occur in the group processes that may prevent participants from building a learning culture.

Athanassios Ntavaris

Role in CoReflect: Researcher

Athanassios Ntavaris has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Cognitive Science. He has worked as a Clinical Psychologist with both children and adults.

His research interests focus on the area of self regulation. Athanassios is interested in the special affordances for developing self regulation that are provided by inquiry environments such as the ones available with Stochasmos.


 

Daropoulos

Apostolos Daropoulos

Resource teacher (Primary Education)

Role in CoReflect: Collaborating teacher

Apostolos Daropoulos is a Resource teacher in Primary Education. He holds a Master’s degree in “New learning environments and development of teaching materials”. He has also concluded two years of training in Educational Psychology. He has participated in several Greek pedagogical projects and organized training conferences and seminars as teacher trainer. He also takes part in training programs of the Greek Pedagogic Institute and the Organisation of Teacher Training (O.EP.EK).

His research interests include innovative learning environments, especially those supported through ICT and the study of factors that influence the implementation of educational change. Through his participation in CoReflect, he expects to find new ways to support the construction of knowledge through computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL). He is currently a PhD candidate in the field of sociology of education in the University of Thessaly.
