Eleni Kyza is an Assistant Professor in Information Society, in the Department of Communication and Internet Studies at the Cyprus University of Technology. She has been conducting research on the topic of new technologies to support teaching and learning. 

For the last few years she has been mainly working on the development and empirical investigation of a web-based learning and teaching platform (STOCHASMOS), seeking to understand how different technological features can best support learning. This project was funded by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation and the European Commission. Currently, she is working on the SYNERGASIA project, a project that examines the role of new technologies in supporting synchronous and asynchronous computer-based collaborative learning among young students. 

Elena was the recipient of a Marie Curie Fellowship (IRG, 2005-2007) from the European Commission. She received her Ph.D. degree from the Learning Sciences program at Northwestern University in 2004, with a specialization in Cognitive Science, her master's degree in Technology in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1996, a B.Sc. in Education, summa cum laude, with a concentration in Educational Media and Technology from Boston University in 1993, and a Teacher's Diploma, from the Pedagogical Academy of Cyprus in 1991. Her undergraduate and graduate studies were funded through CASP/Fulbright scholarships.

Her research interests among others include: innovative computer-based environments and their contribution to learning, technology-infused learning environments in science, teaching with new technologies and web-based inquiry learning environments.

Iolie Nicolaidou is a research associate of the CoReflect project coordinating the Cyprus University of Technology Team. She holds a Ph.D. degree  in Educational Technology from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Her dissertation research focused on the integration of technology into the curriculum through the implementation of digital and paper-based portfolios and the examination of their affordances and limitations. She has a Master’s degree in Educational Media and Technology from Boston University and a BA in Primary Education with a specialization in Natural Sciences from the University of Cyprus. Iolie was a Fulbright scholar for her graduate studies and the recipient of the Concordia University Graduate Fellowship and Scholarship for three consecutive years. During 2004-2007 she was a research assistant in several projects that focused on the impact of technology on the learning and teaching process at the “Center for the Study of Learning and Performance” in Montreal, of which she is a member.

Iolie’s interests in relation to the CoReflect project revolve around the integration of technology as a learning tool to facilitate problem solving and inquiry based learning in educational settings. More specifically, Iolie is interested in the examination of the platform STOCHASMOS’ affordances and limitations through the design and implementation of various scaffolding options offered to learners on demand.

Christothea Herodotou

Christothea Herodotou has a Ph.D. degree in Digital Games and Psychology from the Institute of Education, University of London. Her doctoral research concerned the process of game appropriation with an emphasis on factors motivating game use particularly gamers’ psychological characteristics. Christothea holds an MSc in Education, Technology and Society, University of Bristol and a BA in Primary Education, University of Cyprus. As a member of the Cyprus Educational Mission, she had been teaching at the Greek community schools in London for five years. As from September 2010, she is a research associate of the CoReflect project at the Cyprus University of Technology.

Her research interests include the use of new information and communication technologies, especially digital games, and their relation to behaviour, self-identity, and daily practices. In respect of the CoReflect programme, she is particularly interested in issues of adaptation and transformation of technological innovations into practice.



Freda Terzian

Freda graduated from London University with a B.Sc.(Honors) degree in Biology. Since1992 she was been working at  the Ministry of Education and Culture as a Biology teacher in secondary education. In 1995, she became a member of the team of teachers officially responsible for writing the school textbooks. For three years she was assigned the writing of the book “The science of environment”, which is used by upper secondary school students. In 2000, she was appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture at the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, being responsible for the in-service training for teachers. She worked at the Pedagogical Institute for six years. Freda is currently working at Laniteio Lyceum A´ as a Vice Principal.

Throughout her career Freda has had the opportunity to attend a number of interesting and educative seminars, the most interesting of which were the seminars on Science and Society  by EMBO Heidelberg Germany. Consequently, she has developed a keen interest for the CoReflect project.  


Andreas Hatzichampis

Andreas Hadjichambis has a Ph.D. degree in Biology from the University of Athens. His dissertation was related to the Ecology of threatened ecosystems of Cyprus.  Andreas also has a degree in Biology from the University of Athens and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Conservation Management from the University of Glamorgan, United Kingdom. He currently works as a teacher of biology in Secondary Education.

Andreas worked on the development and evaluation of learning materials for the enrichment of the Cyprus Science Curriculum regarding plant education in the framework of a Research Project entitled “FLORA: the plants of Cyprus, an integrated program for student and teacher’s education in ecology and environmental awareness”. He is also a member of a Content expert team of the Ministry of Education and Culture regarding Biology, aiming to the creation of Educative Digital Learning Material for Biology Educators with the use of Internet. He is currently participating in the Ministry of Education and Culture team as a Content expert regarding Biology lessons and also has the scientific direction of the design and development of learning material and evaluation tools for nine (9) Environmental Education Programs of the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education (KY.K.P.E.E.).

Dimitris Kafouris is an ICT Consultant at the District Office of Education of Larnaca and Famagusta at the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture.  Dimitris is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Exeter, U.K. He graduated from the Pedagogical Academy of Cyprus in 1991. He holds a B.Sc. in Elementary Education with a concentration in social studies from the University of Maryland, Collage Park, USA. He has also conducted postgraduate studies in Geographic Information Systems and Librarianship at the University of Maryland, College Park, he holds a MA in Technology for Educators from Johns Hopkins University, and an MBA in Business Administration (Finance and Information Systems) from the American University, Washington DC. He also earned a MSc in Educational Research from the University of Exeter, U.K. He is a qualified teacher for the state of Maryland and holds a Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) for UK primary schools.

He is mainly interested in the application of new technologies for improving instructional practices and especially geography-related technologies.

Despina Miltiadou is a lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Science. She graduated from the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology of the Agricultural University of Athens and committed research in molecular immunogenetics of ruminants at Roslin and Moredun Research Institutes for the requirements of her Masters by Research (MSc) and Doctorate (PhD) degrees that were awarded by the University of Edinburgh. She has worked as a visitor research assistant at Roslin Research Institute and as a visiting lecturer of Genetics in the Technological Educational Institutes of Epirus and Ionian Islands. Her research interests include genotyping and phylogenetic analysis of ovine and bovine immune system genes, as well as studying the transcription and expression of these genes towards the control of pathogens through animal breeding and vaccine development.
