ACTIVITY 5.2.2 Young People and Science

European Commission Science in Society program

FP7gif

Project CoReflect (Title: Digital support for Inquiry, Collaboration, and Reflection on Socio-Scientific Debates) is a three year (2008-2011) research program, funded by the European Commission, under the FP7 Science in Society program.  Bringing together eight diverse and multi-disciplinary teams from seven European states, the project members seek to promote evidence-based practice in science teaching and learning, by collaborating to iteratively design, enact, critique, and research project- and problem-based innovative inquiry learning environments.  These environments, which will be hosted on the STOCHASMOS web-based teaching and learning platform, will couple data-rich scientific rigor with the flexibility and easy modifiability that is needed for widespread adoption and use.

Of Interest

  • CoReflect will soon be joining Scientix, the new Internet-based Information Platform on Science Education, that European Schoolnet is managing on behalf of the European Commission.Scientix aims to create a new web-based community for Science Education targeted at teachers and researchers, through the setting-up and managing of a user-friendly information platform to facilitate regular dissemination and sharing of progress, know-how, and best practices in science education across the European Union and the member countries of the Seventh Framework Programme. The portal is available in six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Polish (and the resources in any of the 23 EU languages). The portal can be accessed at: http://scientix.eu You can also download the Scientix flyer (pdf).
  • Opening of a research associate position at the Cyprus University of Technology team. Apply by May 20th 2010.
  • Local Working Groups (LWGs) are currently in the phase of enacting the learning environment they designed and the learning environment they adapted from their collaborating LWG (cLWG). Among the learning environments that are currently been enacted are the following: Biotechnology (in Greek and Hebrew), Nicotine (in Hebrew and Greek), Global warming (Greek and German), Water pollution (German and Greek), Extraterrestrial life (Swedish and Greek), Sustainability (Dutch and Greek) and Fog control (Greek and Dutch).
